Winter woes, be gone. Our 5 ways to survive the first month of winter...

Long gone are the days of salt, sand and aperol spritzes. So as the thermometer reaches new lows and we inch towards those frosted winter months, we’re determined to keep morale high with some seasonal treats and activities. Whether it’s saying cheers with goblets of red wine in hand by an open fire or enjoying the toasty aroma and atmosphere of a warming candle, we’ve pulled together our guide to taking the frost off that impending winter chill!

Get yourself to a Winter Wonderland

Message the girls or corral the family down to one of the many wintry festivities going on across the country to celebrate all things cosy and comforting. This is our favourite part of winter. Once you’ve slipped on your favourite fur or wind-proofed yourself in a puffer jacket, there’s no stopping you from soaking up a deliciously spicy mulled wine and indulging in a hearty fare. If you’re Sydney-bound, there’s the Winter Wonderland Wholefood Night Markets, which is transforming The Grounds of Alexandria into a snow-filled foodie melting pot, or if you’re around town in Melbourne, the Whisky, Wine and Fire Festival is complete with dazzling fire sculptures. Or if you’re all about a little winter indulgence, the Winter Night Market ‘Europa’ is back for another season, under the tin sheds of the iconic Queen Victoria Markets. Think crispy cinnamon-sugar donuts, Spaghetti 4 Formaggi tossed in a wheel of cheese and fragrant Spanish paella! Um, divine!

Winter-proof your home

A host of earthy-hued accessories are just what you need to turn your abode into a bona fide igloo of warmth and comfort. When ‘winter-proofing’, we like to set aside a dull and rainy weekend to spend online shopping and zhushing the home, room by room. For a truly luxe, art-deco inspired haven to tuck yourself away into this winter, we’re feeling inspired by this recent Net-A-Porter , sprinkled with jewel tones. And if you’re looking to simply give your space a sprucing, nothing beats the textured, tantalising throws, duvets and cushions in Kip and Co’s collection. This quilted velvet bedspread is currently sitting in our cart. The final touch? Cast a hypnotic veil of black amber, patchouli and musk over your space with our Amber Mahogany Crystal Diffuser. Your humble abode will be feeling like a winter wonderland!

Break a sweat with Hot Pilates or Yoga class.

If your usual morning run is simply too arctic to bear, and we know exercising in general is *way* less desirable, why not spice up the active agenda with some Hot Yoga or Pilates? Think toning, defining, core-strengthening classes that will help balance out all of the delicious comfort-food grazing synonymous with winter (our favourite part…). Plus, it’s great for your head space. You’ll leave feeling sweaty, strong, and shaking in a better way than when you walked in, and this practice holds a range of winter health benefits - no annoying winter sniffles for you! For our Melbournians, our must-visit studios span One Hot Yoga , Studio PP and Upstate Yoga , to name a few. If you’re in Brisbane, we can’t go past Harlow Yoga for an energetic hot yoga class!

Treat yourself to a blissful at-home pamper session

If you’re in the mood for a little hibernation at home, we’ve got just the thing! Cue an at-home pamper fest. Run a steaming hot bath, mingling with rose-scented Sea Salts from French Girl or decadent melts from Lush. While the tub is filling up, strike a match on a rich and ambient soy wax candle like our Oudh Noir from the  earthy De La Terre collection. Once the mood is set and the intoxicating swirl of fragrance has consumed your bathroom, pour a glass of pinot noir and melt into total relaxation. Bliss!

Get started on that long list of reading material

Amongst busy schedules and crazy work hours, it’s often hard to find the time to sit down and truly indulge in a great read, or even catch up on your favourite printed mags. We think there is NOTHING more soul-satisfying than absorbing some fabulous written and visual content (the old school way). So put your phone down, and  grab the latest RUSSH magazine for all things fashion, art, music and film. Or, crank up the heater, get cosy on the couch and tick off some of the books on your *endless* list of suggestions from girlfriends and colleagues (you know the one…). For a little old-school romance, we can’t go past One Day by David Nicholls. We’re not here to lie to you, there will be tears! The Only Woman In The Room by Marie Benedict is currently sitting atop our bedside table. This novel follows the incredible true story of actress Hedy Lamarr, whose journey involves fleeing World War 2, and her secret life as a scientist and inventor. A truly groundbreaking and inspiring read!

While many of us may be strangers to reveling in the colder months, we hope this warming to-do list has you emerging from the duvet cocoon and feeling inspired to embrace winter. We’ll be setting the alarm for hot yoga and steaming glasses filled with mulled wine in the near future! For more flickering, mood-lifting fragrances to make this season memorable, you can tour our entire range here.
